Fifteen year old Miley Cyrus has created a huge scandal by doing a semi topless shoot for Vanity Fair magazine. Strangely enough, at the time of the shooting there was no problem with Miley taking off her top, clutching a satin sheet around her, and pouting at the camera. Yet once Disney saw the pictures, the proverbial shit hit the fan. Oh, and to add to the general weirdness, yes, that is her father posing with her in another one of the pictures from the same shoot.
Disney has come out strongly against the pictures, saying: “Unfortunately, as the article suggests, a situation was created to deliberately manipulate a 15-year-old in order to sell magazines.”
The photographer who took the pictures, the renowned Annie Lebowitz told People magazine ´I´m sorry that my portrait of Miley has been misinterpreted. Miley and I looked at fashion photographs together and we discussed the picture in that context before we shot it. The photograph is a simple, classic portrait, shot with very little makeup, and I think it is very beautiful.´
Miley Cyrus can´t make her mind up, saying at one time: “ I thought, This looks pretty, and really natural. I think it’s really artsy.” and then after Disney´s comments, she spoke to Entertainment Tonight, saying ´I took part in a photo shoot that was supposed to be ´artistic´ and now... I feel so embarrassed. I never intended for any of this to happen and I apologize to my fans who I care so deeply about.´
Moral of the story: Disney reserves the right to pimp out its child stars as and when it pleases and gets very irritated when others try to make money using them as well. Non Disney organizations should find other underage girls to exploit in the name of gross profits.
